It is dawn on May 26: the silence is abruptly broken by the gallop of a small group of horses. What will happen in the next few hours will go down in history as the Battle of Fossalta, and the fate of King Enzo, son of Emperor Frederick II, will change forever.
VENTURA BATTLE SYSTEM
It is a game system for historical medieval battles for two players, including beginners, that provides everything needed to immediately put military strategy, tactical resourcefulness, and gaming courage to the test.
THE FALL OF THE KING
Translated as "The Fall of the King," it is a printed edition in English, with the Italian translation provided in digital format, which includes four epic historical scenarios that reconstruct the key moments of the terrible Battle of Fossalta, where the imperial Ghibelline troops of King Enzo faced the Guelph militias of Bologna. The components are, however, language independent.
INGREDIENTS
The package contains 48 large cards with the characteristics of those participating in the scenarios; 4 large colored maps with the different battlefields; 78 circular tiles representing the fighters on the map; 7 distance gauges; 2 boards; 1 token; 91 indicators and 44 markers. To play, you need a handful of standard 6-sided dice, not included in the package.
MEDIEVAL HISTORICAL BATTLES
The Fall of the King is the first product of the system produced by Sir Chester Cobblepot for three-dimensional tactical medieval historical battles, called the Ventura Battle System. The system features modular 90x90 battlefields on which Foot Soldiers and/or Cavalry, represented by specific circular bases, move and fight.
COMPAGNIE DI VENTURA
The "compagnie di ventura" were mercenary troops made up of so-called soldiers of fortune, organized and led by a condottiero. For the Ventura Battle System, the Company is the group of all the Soldiers that compose it, including the Captain and the Constables. It represents both the compagnie di ventura and the troops of a free Commune, gathered in districts, quarters, or city wards.
MERCENARY SOLDIERS
PEDITES
They are Foot Soldiers, represented on the battlefield by a circular token with a diameter of 25 mm, which is moved and fights on the map through specific measurements by performing specific Actions allowed by its characteristics, organized and managed with specific cards.
MILITES
They are mounted soldiers, this time represented by a circular token with a diameter of 40 mm; a Milites has the Pedites version on the back of its card, with modified characteristics. Mounted on their horse, the Milites have other specific Actions to move, act, and fight.
The Fall of the King was funded through a crowdfunding campaign organized on Kickstarter and only backers were able to secure a copy of this game. At the moment, therefore, it is not available for sale.
